Our fellowship is collecting a non perishable food drive to donate for our Jefferson City Salvation Army food pantry. I spoke with a manager there named Karen.
She reports that the number of people served this past month is nearly double that of previous months. As you can imagine, the decrease in available food for pantries, the increase in cost of food and the decrease and sometimes elimination of SNAP has created a “perfect storm” for the increased need for food pantry access.
Our fellowship already provides a Salvation Army dinner for 60 on the fourth Friday of every month. They have a large pantry for storing items. They feed those who live there and have an open food pantry every Tuesday and Friday.
I believe that we have a social Justice opportunity to help our neighbors during this holiday season
- Please bring food to be donated this Sunday and leave at the entryway to our building
- We will need drivers to transport our food donation to the Salvation Army Tuesday, November 18 We will meet at the church at 10:00am
When we arrive at the Salvation Army, they will take our donations, stock their pantry and return our bins.
Thank you. Please get in touch with me for any questions or concerns.
Sincerely and in peace
Joan Kurtzeborn
