Greeted by the Names

8/26/2013

Today we were greeted by a new sight when we arrived at the Fellowship: we have a new board in the entryway to hang everyone's nametags!  The old cabinet is still there for those who prefer it or don't want their name hanging out there for anyone to see (which we respect; we know how it is), but it was an interesting feeling, seeing our Fellowship community made so visible as you walk in the door.

Other news:

We still need RE Volunteers for September.  A teacher is needed for September 29th and aides for all dates.  Please contact Amy Regnier if you can help.

Zumba classes are no longer being held on Saturdays due to low attendance.  Monday Zumba will continue.  Contact Johnny Mitchell-Reed.

This Thursday, August 29th at 7pm, the Missouri River Regional Library will be showing a documentary film: "Islamic Art: Mirror of the Invisible World."  Contact Madeline Matson.

This Friday, August 30th at 7pm, Bob Boldt is beginning a documentary film series at UUFJC.  The first selection is "Occupy Love."  Watch for more documentaries the last Friday of every month.  Contact Bob Boldt.

Sam is accepting pre-orders for slabs of ribs.  He will grill them on Sept. 6th and deliver them hot and fresh, wrapped in foil, to those who pre-ordered.  Delivery will be here at the Fellowship during the First Friday dinner September 6th.  Ribs are $20 for a full slab and proceeds benefit UUFJC's DrUUm Up Support Relay for Life team.  You can pay when pre-ordering or at pick-up.  Contact Shanon Hawk.

"Kickin' Cancer" Bracelets are on sale for $5 each to benefit cancer research.  Contact Shanon Hawk.

For Yoga, Zumba, and even more events, see our Calendars.

"Flame on the Water"

8/19/2013

Thank you for your continuing generosity in donating items for flood relief in Waynesville!  Laura Gilkey's van was full on Tuesday and full again Sunday.  They are still in need, especially of cleaning supplies, linens (bedding, towels, etc.), food, and hygiene items.  Contact Laura if you still want to donate.

Other news:

Voting on the newsletter title is over, and it was very close but we have a winner.  The new newsletter title is: "Flame on the Water."  Watch for the first issue under that title coming soon.

Today some of our members also went to Mid-MO Pridefest in Columbia, where we were sharing a table with the UU of Columbia.  Here's hoping a good time was had by all!

This Tuesday, August 20th at 7 pm, there will be a presentation at Missouri River Regional Library's Art Gallery: "A PET (Personal Energy Transportation) Project For the World."  Attendees will hear about volunteers in Columbia constructing PET vehicles for persons with leg disabilities around the world, and one of their vehicles will be there for demonstration.  For more details, contact Madeline Matson.

This Friday, August 23rd is our monthly turn to provide a meal at the Salvation Army.  Contact Bob Antweiler to volunteer.

Kickin' Cancer bracelets are available for $5 each; proceeds benefit our Relay for Life team.  Contact Shanon Hawk.

For Yoga, Zumba, and even more events, see our Calendars.

Donations for Waynesville and more

8/12/2013

It's been a rough week in parts of our state.  After all the flooding, it was was great to be together again at the Fellowship, but we also have in our thoughts the people who weren't as fortunate.

Earlier this week Shanon Hawk and friends took a load of relief supplies down to Waynesville, the town that was hardest hit by the floods, and the help was much appreciated there.  If you want to help with donating supplies, contact Shanon.  Laura Gilkey will also be picking up donations at the Board Meeting; please leave items in the Forum Room by 6:00 pm Tuesday the 13th.

Other news:

Our donations to South School are being delivered this week (not at the end of the month as previously announced; they just start earlier and earlier!).  If you want to make any last-minute donations, contact Katherine Connor ASAP; at last report she also has a Staples coupon you can use to buy supplies.

This Friday at 7pm, the Fellowship hosts the monthly Reader's Eye Film, "The Lives of Others."

Next Sunday, August 18th, UUFJC will be co-sponsoring a booth with Columbia UU at MidMO PrideFest.  If you want to carpool, we will gather at the Fellowship and travel to Columbia.  It is advertised as a family-friendly event.  For more information, contact Nancy Ordway or Don Love.

Submissions for the September Newsletter and Calendar are also due next Sunday.

"Kickin' Cancer" Bracelets are available for $5 each with proceeds benefitting our Relay for Life team.  See Shanon Hawk.

We still need Adult Forum leaders for August and September.  We can use the laptop on the monitor in the forum room, so if you have an online video to discuss, that's one of your options!  If you have an idea but don't want to lead, please write in on the whiteboard in the Forum Room.

And, last call on updating the Key Inventory.  If you have any keys to the building or other Fellowship-related keys, please contact Laura Gilkey.

For Yoga, Zumba, and even more events, see our Calendars.
