Sunday morning, our own Jim Davis told us the story of how American Unitarianism expanded from its origins in New England into the area that would become the Midwest. Leaders like the "Unity Men" and the Iowa Sisterhood not only brought Unitarianism to new geographic territory but new theological territory as well. They founded churches that practiced radical openness of belief and outreach and that engaged with the great political questions of the day (particularly the abolition of slavery). They created a new basis for faith community, and their legacy still shapes Unitarian Universalism today.

Bob Boldt and Patt Behler will remember the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in words and images, and Laura Gilkey will deliver a sermon about how we think of the bombings and the challenge of acknowledging guilt while still extending compassion.
