"Hiroshima & Nagasaki," Betty Cooper

Message: "Marshall McLuhan: Is the Medium Still the Message?," Rev. Mike Adamek
Dr. McLuhan wrote that technology shapes the way we think and what we believe. He spoke about the global village resulting from something very similar to the World Wide Web in his doctoral dissertation published in 1962. Does his thesis still have resonance?

UUFJC News and Events this week:
This year, we will be supporting Table of Grace's "Kids Club" as they help local children going back to school. They have more than 80 kids coming to their three day event, August 12th - 14th. The evening sessions focus on self esteem and cooperation. At the end of the event each child receives a backpack filled with the supplies needed for their particular school and grade, and our members have decided to help by donating supplies for the backpacks. Donations must be at UUFJC by next Sunday, August 9th. A supply list is available on request. For more information, contact Rev. Nancy Tanner-Thies.
This Friday, August 7th starting at 5 pm is our First Friday Social, an evening of casual fun with our members and friends. Bring refreshment for yourself or to share, enjoy our deck and grill, or just hang out. RSVP to Katherine Connor before attending.
This Saturday, August 8th at 4 pm, Joanna Babb is hosting a birthday celebration for her husband Jim, who is turning 75 this week. Join Joanna and Jim at their home for a fiesta with vegan and non-vegan food options. "One and all are welcome. Bring only your appetite and good cheer. And a lawn chair if you wish." Contact Joanna for directions and more information. Happy Birthday, Jim!

This Friday, August 7th, Missouri River Regional Library presents its First Friday Film: "Boyhood."
