In our service Sunday morning, we honored many ways of mothering. Indeed, as Rev. Nancy pointed out in her sermon, it can be a lifelong quest to find and understand "our mothers," both the real women who brought us to where we are and the concept of motherhood that we hold. It's important to look beyond the greeting card qualities of love and care, to accept that our mothers and mother-images are imperfect, but also to try to move into the parts of our mothers' legacy that we do want to claim.
