Sunday, November 28:

This morning, we celebrated our annual Bread Communion.  The sharing of bread is a timeless symbol of welcome and mutual support.  Bread that is "broken" fulfills its highest purpose, opening up to provide nourishment.  Our hearts, too, fulfill their highest purpose when they are "broken" open to bless the world and the people around us.

Today also begins our annual Guest At Your Table fundraiser to support the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee.  UUSC empowers grassroots partners to work for human rights around the world.  Stories from UUSC's work, donation boxes, and donation envelopes are available at our building, or you can learn more about UUSC's work and give online: https://www.uusc.org/.  Donations made through our Fellowship will be due in late January

For those who wish to keep up with our neighbors at the UU Church of Columbia, their service from this morning is now available to view online: https://youtu.be/w8Y9izGhXY4.  Also note that UUCC's online services have now moved back to 10:30 am Sunday mornings.

UUFJC News and Events this week:

The UUFJC Board is in the very early exploration of hiring a one-quarter-time contract minister.  This is going to be a collaborative process that will require a great deal of thought about who we are and who we want to become as a congregation, and what we want from a minister.  If you are interested in assisting with this process, would like more information, or would like to provide feedback, please contact a board member.

As we learn more and more how we can make our Zoom services work, we find that we can no longer accept Joys and Concerns via chat in the Zoom application. On at least three occasions, we didn't see the chat until it was too late to add to the spoken Joys and Concerns, and we don't want that to happen again. Everyone can either use the link here: https://uufjc.org/joys--concerns.html or, if you're at the building in-person before 10:30, fill out a paper form and give it to the moderator.

We have a new art exhibit on display in our building, of Eco-Dyed prints by Sue Gibson.  Many thanks to Sue and to our Art Committee.

The UUFJC Members and Friends Directory has been updated.  This is not a membership list or mailing list, just an optional way to make your contact information available to other members and friends.  In the interests of privacy we make the directory available by request.  Please remember that you can submit updates at any time.  Contact Laura Gilkey at [email protected] for a copy of the directory or to update your listing.

We are always in need of donations for our free community pantry.  No glass containers or expired items, please.  For more information about the pantry and current needs, contact Joan: j[email protected].  Reimbursements are available; contact our treasurer, Bob Antweiler: [email protected].

On Thursdays at 5:30 pm, Katherine Connor hosts a weekly Zoom Happy Hour for UUFJC Members and Friends to gather and check in.

Community Events this week:
This Thursday, December 2nd at 7 pm is the monthly meeting of the local chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.  For more information contact Susan Randolph.

This Friday, December 3rd at 7 pm in their Art Gallery, Missouri River Regional Library presents their monthly First Friday Film: "Here Today."  Veteran comedy writer Charlie Burnz (Billy Crystal) forms an unlikely yet hilarious and touching friendship with New York lounge singer Emma Payge (Tiffany Haddish). Emma unexpectedly wins a lunch with the comedy legend, but their relationship gets off to an extremely rocky start. Before long, each finds in the other a sort of soulmate, forging a deep bond in a story of friendship across generations. The film is based on Alan Zweibel's short story, "The Prize." Critics noted "the easy chemistry between the characters reflects the real-life friendship of the two stars."  Contact Madeline Matson.  For more on library events, visit MRRL.org.
