Building a Common Moral Sensibility

7/12/2015

This morning, Rev. Mike brought us arguments both philosophical and scientific that humans have an innate "moral sense" --- or more accurately, a collection of moral senses that give us the capacity for right action.  However, recent events from Charleston to the Middle East show us that this capacity is not always fulfilled, or is fulfilled in unbalanced ways that pit group against group.  How, in our families and society, can we foster the best in people?  How can we encourage them to honor and balance their moral senses?

Next Sunday, July 19th:

Adult Forum - 9:15 am
"Will College Pay Off?," Frank Rycyk
Wharton professor Peter Capelli questions this idea in his book by the above title.  His answer to the question --- "will my degree prove worth the investment?" --- is a resounding "maybe."  It is dependent upon such factors as college chosen and the particular major.

Service and Religious Education - 10:30 am
Message: "Summer Heat and a Passion for Life," Rev. Nancy Tanner-Thies
What is it that gives life purpose and increases our sense of self?
