- Black Music has a Beat. It expresses the rhythm of life that calls us toward wholeness.
- Black Music is about Identity: Even when you feel invisible and powerless, Black Music says that you are somebody, and that you are part of a power for justice larger than yourself.
- Black Music lifts up Improvisation: Amid the changes of life, we all need the ability to be flexible and spontaneous, to engage with the moment --- to improvise.
- And Black Music teaches that our Condition is Not our Conclusion: We may feel ourselves in difficult times now. The Black Music tradition was formed out of many difficult times of slavery and oppression and still sings out belief that faith, right action, and sacred power will bring us to a better world.
