Coming Together: Water Communion

On September 12 we celebrated our annual Water Communion, a ceremony of coming together to begin a new church year.  We shared an ingathering greeting via video from Unitarian Universalist Association president Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray.  As she reflected, the possibilities for coming together in the face of the pandemic continue to shift, at times creating a confusing patchwork of needs across different times and places, and we need care, kindness, and patience to come together and share the healing power of our faith.  Here at UUFJC, we made room for members and friends both in-person and online to share water that represented many things close to their hearts: experiences on distant travels and near at hand, favorite places of departed loved ones, homes fondly remembered and homes newly found, the sustaining power of water and the need to ensure access to it for all.  Water nourishes life and creates ground for possibility, and we continue our quest to embrace possibilities together.

We are resuming Children's Religious Education at our in-person services!
This week's lesson: "Understanding the Principles Lesson 3: appreciating connections."
Children are welcome to join Religious Educator Samantha Porter for a lesson in the RE Room during the service hour.  For more details, contact Samantha or our RE Director, Kim Connor.

Masks are currently required for everyone attending UUFJC events in-person.  Free masks will be available if you do not have one.

Board Meeting:
Next Sunday, September 19th, the UUFJC Board meets in person at our building at 3 pm.  All are welcome to attend our board meetings.  For agenda and more information, contact Rich Burdge.

Worship Committee Meeting:
Later next Sunday, September 19th, our Worship Service Committee meets in person at our building at 5 pm.  Contact Lisa Sanning to get involved in creating our Sunday services.

Our building is reserved by community groups Wednesdays and Saturdays starting at 6 pm and Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 5:30 pm.  If you have access to our building, please allow privacy at these times.

Community Events this week:
This Tuesday, September 14th at 11 am, the emergency housing subgroup of the Jefferson City Homelessness Working Group holds its monthly meeting.  To get involved with this or other aspects of the homelessness working group, contact Patt Behler.
