Cultivating a Faith Community

10/11/2021

Last Sunday morning, Rev. Nancy TannerThies continued our monthly theme of Cultivating Relationship with thoughts on how to cultivate the special relationship that is a shared faith community.  Rev. Nancy identified three ways people can identify with a church: through how we behave together, what we believe together, and through a sense of belonging.  As UUs our tradition of belief centers on freedom, reason, and tolerance.  Through this, many of us feel a sense of belonging, of being accepted and supported while being free to be our authentic selves.  How we behave matters in fostering that belonging and relationship: how do our actions connect us together?  How can we behave with thoughtfulness toward the needs of others?  How can we take responsibility for our freedom and be open to the challenges and insights that come from being open to others in relationship?

If you would also like to keep up with our neighbors at the UU Church of Columbia, the sermon from their October 10th service is now available to view online: https://youtu.be/qnC6RADvjQ4

Joan Kurtzeborn shares an update on our free community pantry.  "The Pantry is being used a lot.  When I stocked the pantry [one day], there was a lady waiting in the parking lot for me to finish so that she could use it.  There are only two no no’s.  1. No glass containers. 2. No expired items.  That being said, this is what we need: boxed milk, canned vegetables, soup, canned meals and fruit with pop top openers,  treats for children, cooking oil, tea bags and coffee, canned meat such as tuna and chicken, stove top stuffing, crackers, dishwashing and laundry detergents, soap and shampoo, baby wipes and diapers.  This is also a good time to donate seasonal items such as fall scented hand soap and dish towels, etc."  For more information about the pantry and current needs, contact Joan: j[email protected].  Reimbursements are available; contact our treasurer, Bob Antweiler: [email protected].

On Thursdays at 5:30 pm, Katherine Connor hosts a weekly Zoom Happy Hour for UUFJC Members and Friends to gather and check in.
