The Board is trying to gauge interest in an evening social gathering/potluck the Friday (March 15) or Saturday (March 16) before St. Patrick’s Day. The event would, of course, be Irish-themed. If you are interested, please tell a Board member.

Monday, February 11, 7:00 pm — the UUFJC Lecture Series features Marianne Asher-Chapman, Executive Director and co-founder of Missouri Missing. She helped found the organization after her daughter went missing several years ago. (Contact Frank Rycyk or Carol Bontempo)
Thursday, February 14, 7:00 p.m. — the American Association of University Women will hear Dr. Caryn Giarratano, Assistant Director of Assessment at the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education speak on Leading the Way for Education Change: Missouri, let’s Do It. Saturday, February 16, the Hola Amigos group will be hosting a Fiesta Grande that’s open to all. It will be from 2 to 4 pm. There will be a flamenco dance demonstration at 2:30, and a “fashion show” and awards for ethnic costumes. You are invited to dress accordingly. You are also encouraged to bring a Latin dish or drink to share, with a small sign identifying the item and its country of origin. (Contact Patt Behler)
Community Events this week:
The Missouri River Regional Library is hosting several events, including the Loosely Bound Book Club on Monday, 6 to 7:30 pm, a class on Tumblr on Tesday, 3 to 4 pm (reservations are required).
On Tuesday, 3 to 4 pm you can learn the basics about the growing social media platform, Tumblr. Reservations are required.
Also on Tuesday, 6:30 to 8 pm, blogger Melanie Peters of Intentergy.com will share strategies for adding positive energy and organization to your life through writing. With ideas for blogging, social media practices, and journaling, this presentation will help you make a positive digital footprint by using a variety of composition practices. Writers looking for ways to develop their craft will also find this presentation helpful.
On Wednesday at 7 pm there will be a film, John Lewis: Get In the Way. Follow the courageous journey of John Lewis, civil rights hero, congressional leader, and human rights champion whose fight for justice spans the past 50 years.
