Adult Forum - 9:15 am

We will read and discuss an article by Stephen Dinan.
Service and Religious Education - 10:30 am
Message: "Web of Covenant," Rev. Julie Taylor
Covenants guide us individually and jointly in how we will interact with each other. As UUs we are a people of promises—covenants, rather than a people of a book. How do these layers of promises help us to live in community?
Rev. Julie Taylor specializes in critical incident response, trauma, and disaster spiritual care. Julie serves the UU Trauma Response Ministry team, is on the steering committee of the Don’t Shoot Coalition in St. Louis, is a Chaplain with the New York Air National Guard and is the director of the UU House of Study at Eden Theological Seminary.
If you have a joy or concern that you would like to have read during the Service, please submit it by noon on Friday through our website: http://uufjc.org/joys--concerns.html

UUFJC News and Events this week:
Next weekend, we are offering a special Membership Ministry Workshop to help us work on being intentional in the way in which we serve our current members and how we welcome visitors. The workshop leader, Lori Emison Clair, has done this work at First Unitarian Church in Des Moines, Iowa and helped form the Unitarian Universalist Association of Membership Professionals. The workshop is split into two sessions, from 3 pm to 5 pm on Saturday and from 1:30 pm to 4:45 pm on Sunday. See the October newsletter or contact Alexis for more information. If you wish to participate, please RSVP to Alexis by Wednesday.
The Membership Committee urgently needs volunteers willing to provide rides to members and friends on Sunday mornings, as one of our usual drivers, Patt Behler, can’t do it right now. If you can help, please contact Bob Antweiler.
Monday, October 24th at 6:30 pm, Faith Voices for Jefferson City holds its monthly assembly at Quinn Chapel AME Church. See Katherine Connor.
The Transgender Support Group meets this Thursday, October 27th at 7 pm.

Community Events this week:
This Tuesday, October 25th, Missouri River Regional Library hosts "Nonfiction at Noon" in the Library Annex. Discussion Title: "Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption" by Bryan Stevenson. Called “America’s Mandela,” Stevenson is a legal crusader for the voiceless and the outcast in society. An unsparing look at the U.S. justice system. Contact Madeline Matson.
Wednesday, October 26th, MRRL will host a live broadcast with KBIA-FM's Views of the News staff. Join Missouri School of Journalism professors Amy Simons, Mike McKean and Earnest Perry for a discussion of the media and election '16, with a question & answer session following the program. The closer we get to Election Day, the hotter the rhetoric gets. We rely on our news media to cut through the clutter and put it all into context. But where do the opinions end and the true reporting begin? The broadcast will begin at 6:30 pm in the library art gallery. Doors open at 6 pm and close at 6:20. Contact Madeline Matson.
This week, Capitol City Cinema presents "The Ghosts and Mr. Chicken" (Tuesday only), "Hocus Pocus" (Wednesday only), "Batman" (Thursday only) and "Complete Unknown" (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). For showtimes and more information, visit capitolcitycinema.org.
