Mary Full of Grace

3/7/2016

Sunday morning, Rev. Mike brought us into Women's History Month with thoughts on one woman who looms large in history: Mary, the mother of Jesus.  Some women have experienced Mary's image as a tool of oppression, a virgin mother being an impossible model for women's virtue.  However, Mary has also built bridges between peoples through the ages.  Revered from Mohammed's time (a sura of the Holy Koran bears her name) to modern Mexico and in innumerable other places, Mary reminds Christians of a moment of connection between God and humanity, and she represents a connection with the divine clad in traditionally feminine qualities of compassion and mercy.

Next Sunday, March 13th:

Adult Forum - 9:15 am
Led by Frank Rycyk

Service and Religious Education - 10:30 am
Message: "Beyond 'Shakespeare's Sister'," Alexis Engelbrecht
Inspired by Virginia Woolf's short piece entitled "Shakespeare's Sister", this talk honors those who suffer due to cultural and political restraints and encourages us to mindful of forces that may be holding us back as creative individuals.
If you have a joy or concern that you would like to have read during the Service, please submit it through our website: http://uufjc.org/joys--concerns.html
