This Sunday, Jim Davis continued our month of focus on Memory with a look back on our Unitarian and Universalist past. UUs often think of ourselves as (in the words of one of our hymns), "building a new way." But it is also important to remember our roots, to respect and gain strength from those who paved the way for us. Jim shared stories from the time of the Civil War, of Unitarians and Universalists who opposed the atrocities of slavery. They struggled with despair and social pressure as perhaps we might, sometimes giving way, sometimes standing firm. Let us remember that we don't face the task of "building a new way" from scratch, by ourselves. Even as we move forward, the way we always do, we can ground ourselves in the memory of those who came before.

Covenant Drafting - 2 pm
We have had three covenant-building workshops over the last two months. Now, it's time to merge like covenant points and finalize a draft for a vote of the membership. If you have not participated in a workshop, feel free to participate in finalizing a draft. Or, you may send your ideas to Katherine Connor via email ([email protected]).

This Sunday, we began including a printed version of our Sunday Morning announcements in the Order of Service. We will also continue verbal announcements for now, but we may switch to paper-only in the near future. Please let us know what you think! Contact the administrator ([email protected]) or a member of our board.
We need someone to step forward and coordinate our Salvation Army meals. The coordinator will have a lot of help learning the ropes and providing the food. If we don't have a coordinator by the end of this year, we will probably have to give up this longtime community service of our Fellowship. If you are willing to step forward, please contact Roberta Dunkel. (Note, we are not serving at the Salvation Army in November or December due to the holidays.)
The Membership Committee is looking for people willing to give rides to members and friends who can't drive to church on Sundays. We currently have two people needing rides. If you can help, please contact Bob Antweiler.
CANCELED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER - Monday, November 12th, the UUFJC Board meets at 6 pm. All are welcome to attend board meetings. Contact Katherine Connor.

This month: "Healing Trauma to Reduce Violence and Addiction," presented by UUFJC's own Jan Harcourt, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. For more about our Lecture Series, contact Carol Bontempo or Frank Rycyk. Note: the Lecture series will take a break next month, with no lecture in December.
This Friday, November 16th, our building is reserved by a community group starting at 6:30 pm. Please allow privacy.
This Saturday, November 17th, the Hola Amigos Spanish Speakers meet in our building from 1-4 pm. Contact Patt Behler.
