Sunday morning was another "This Unitarian Universalist Life" service, when several of our members and friends shared their reflections on the holiday season, and on love. Jim Babb and Elizabeth Prenger gave us a vision of love that moves beyond words into actions, actions that can come to us like a light in the darkness. Maybe that sounds sentimental, but Lisa Sanning encouraged us to suspend our skepticism and embrace the fleeting, magic of the season in all its sweetness. As Alexis shared memories of making gifts of appreciation for neighbors, we were reminded that holiday magic doesn't have to be big budget, that it lies in those loving acts of connection.

This outstanding group of singers will present a program of holiday songs from different cultures. Contact Madeline Matson.
Also this Thursday at 7 pm, Columbia Area NOW meets at the Hy-Vee Restaurant at Broadway and Fairview in Columbia. Non-members and new members are welcome. Contact Sue Gibson.
This week, Capitol City Cinema presents "Casual Encounters" (Thursday only, free screening plus Q&A with the producers), "Kids Flicks" (Saturday only), and "Janis: Little Girl Blue" (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). For showtimes and more information, visit capitolcitycinema.org.
