Rev. Mike also shared the seasonal short story "The Loudest Voice" by Grace Paley, in which a Jewish-American girl is drafted into her school's Christmas pageant. If we focus to the point of timelessness on this story, what whispers to us? How would we feel if we were surrounded by a different culture drawing our children into its customs? How would we feel if we were those children?

Community Events this week:
This Tuesday, December 8th at 7 pm, Missouri River Regional Library presents a virtual program via Zoom: "Understanding Addiction." No one wakes up in the morning and decides to become addicted to something. So how does it happen? Dr. James M. Smith, a licensed professional counselor, will walk through the stages of addiction, describing changes in the brain and in behaviors that contribute to addiction. He will also discuss what friends and family can do in response to a loved one who has an addiction. Contact Madeline Matson. For more on Library events, visit MRRL.org.
This Thursday, December 10th at 6:30 pm, MRRL presents another virtual Zoom program: "Taking Care of YOU." This program will provide practical strategies to better deal with stress and life’s challenges. Topics will include: taking care of all aspects of your health—mind, body and spirit; becoming more aware of the mind-body connection, responding with thought versus reacting automatically to life’s stressors, finding ways to become a happier person, simplifying your life, and learning to live more in the moment. Lynda Zimmerman, a nutrition and health specialist with the University of Missouri Extension, will present the program. Contact Madeline Matson. For more on Library events, visit MRRL.org.
Our neighbors at Vipassana Buddhist Church / Center for Buddhist Development are holding online services via Zoom at 10 am on Sundays, as well as meditation nights via Zoom at 7 pm on Thursdays. For more information, contact [email protected].
