Sunday, November 25, 2018 Celebrating Bread Communion

11/28/2018

This Sunday we celebrated our Bread Communion and viewed a recorded message from Rev. Daniel Gregoire who serves the UU Society of Grafton and Upton, Massachusetts.  Gregoire’s message “A Harvest of Grace” touched on not only the literal harvest of fruits and grains that we celebrate this time of year, but upon the harvest of grace we received from all those who came before and continue to receive from those in our community.

Next Sunday, December 2nd:

Adult Forum - 9:15 am
"The Missouri 2019 Legislative Agenda”, Jeanette Mott Oxford, Executive Director of Empower Missouri and a former State Representative.

Service and Religious Education - 10:30 am
Message:  "Not Karma, Not Just Desserts, What?", Rev. Mike Adamek.  This service is the on the December topic, Mystery.  Adamek writes: “You live with mystery, you do not solve it as a problem of knowledge.  Unravel a portion and all you get is more mystery.”
If you have a joy or concern that you would like to have read during the Service, please submit it by noon on Friday through our website: http://uufjc.org/joys--concerns.html

Plus, Children's RE --- "Let the Mystery Be:  The practice of gratitude and appreciation"

UUFJC News and Events this week:

The December Newsletter and Calendar are complete.  Hard copies are available at the Fellowship and electronic copies are attached.

We need someone to step forward and coordinate our Salvation Army meals.  The coordinator will have a lot of help learning the ropes and providing the food.  If we don't have a coordinator by the end of this year, we will probably have to give up this longtime community service of our Fellowship.  If you are willing to step forward, please contact Roberta Dunkel.  (Note, we are not serving at the Salvation Army in November or December due to the holidays.)

The Membership Committee is looking for people willing to give rides to members and friends who can't drive to church on Sundays.  We currently have two people needing rides.  If you can help, please contact Bob Antweiler.

Volunteers are needed to help with the Chili/Soup Fest coming on December 8th.  Obviously, chili and soups are needed, plus items to sell in our “country market”, items for the silent auction, and workers to help set up and clean-up.  Contact Bob Antweiler to volunteer or sign up at the Fellowship.

Community Events this week:

Thursday, November 29, 7pm at the Missouri River Regional Library “Climate Change Impacts on Health and Security” will be presented by Carolyn Amparan, a founding member of the Columbia Chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby. Amparan has invested the past five years in educating others about the risks of and solutions for climate change. She was part of a team to develop and teach an online course on climate change for the University of Missouri. She currently serves on the Columbia Mayor’s Task Force on Climate Action and Adaptation and chairs the Subcommittee on Health, Safety and Well-Being.

This week, Capitol City Cinema presents "Border" (Thursday through Sunday).  For showtimes, more events, and more information, visit capitolcitycinema.org.
