Temporarily Off-Kilter

12/15/2019

Our services were canceled today due to the weather --- Nature took its turn at putting us in Awe of its power.

While we missed out on a sermon from Rev. Nancy TannerThies, she shares these words:

Kathleen Vohs writes:
"Awe is quite threatening in certain ways, and something that is challenging and unwelcome [it]can border on fear....The experience of awe is one where you are temporarily off-kilter in terms of your understanding of the world. People mostly walk around with a sense of knowing what is going on in the world. They have hypotheses about the way people behave and what might happen; those are pretty airtight. It is hard to get people to shake from those because that’s just how the brain works. We are always walking around trying to confirm the things we already think. When you are in a state of awe, it puts you off balance and as a consequence...people might be ready to learn new things and have some of their assumptions questioned."

In the midst of the business of the season and the concern about the weather, I hope each of you finds time to experience something awesome.

We now have a holiday tree on display by the piano.  All are invited to bring ornaments to add to the tree and make its decorations a reflection of our Fellowship community.  The tree will remain on display until December 29th.  For more information, contact Patt Behler.

And as a holiday fundraiser for the Fellowship, we have two raffle baskets now on display near the cafe bar, filled with wine and treats for holiday entertaining or just for treating yourself.  The drawing will be held in one week, on Sunday, December 22nd, so don't wait!  For tickets and more what's in the baskets, contact Carol Bontempo.
