Sunday morning, Rev. Mike Adamek helped us begin to explore our Soul Matters theme for this new month: Courage. Rev. Mike shared Winston Churchill's opinion that Courage is "the first virtue" because all other virtues depend on it. Indeed standing for our beliefs often demands courage --- the moral courage of facing social censure, and at times even the physical courage of risking our own safety. But when Mike related his own experiences of facing a difficult conflict, he found that while courage had been necessary, it also needed to be tempered with honesty toward self and others, to guide people to use their courage toward a just end.

The Jefferson City Multicultural Festival is coming this Saturday, October 7th from 10 am to 3 pm, and UUFJC will once again have a booth. If you can help with setup, takedown, or staffing the booth, or if you can donate items to sell such as handmade items or baked goods, see the signup sheet by the entrance or contact Bob Antweiler.
Coming Monday, October 9th at 7 pm is the monthly UUFJC Lecture series. This month's topic: “Toward Bias-Free Reporting,” presented by Bob Watson. Bob Watson’s multi-decade journalism career includes radio, television and print. He has been covering the Missouri legislature for over half a decade. He will share how, while we all have our personal biases, we can separate them from our factual reporting. Contact Carol Bontempo or Frank Rycyk.
