Facing our own privilege and our own complicity in oppression is deeply uncomfortable. Rev. Nancy offered these steps, based on Nonviolent Communication techniques. (Steps which, mnemonically, we can remember to do OFteNeR):
Observe the situation without judgment.
Take stock of the Feelings it raises in us.
Ask what Needs give rise to those feelings.
Request what will fulfill those needs.
And imagine, too, what those steps might look like from the other person's perspective.

UUFJC News and Events this week:
Our Fellowship’s 25th Anniversary is coming this May! We would like to celebrate with a special event, but we need people to plan it and make it happen! Bob Antweiler will not be leading the effort, but he has agreed to be a contact to start coordinating people, so contact him if you want to get involved.
Lisa Sanning has volunteered to organize our annual Rummage Sale! She is currently working on selecting a date and would like your input. When the time comes, we will need lots of volunteers for the sale, so stay posted, and many thanks to Lisa for taking the lead!
Our Social Action Committee has drafted a response to the Missouri Senate's Joint Resolution 39, opposing the provisions of the Resolution which would allow businesses to refuse service to same-sex couples --- this is in keeping with our Fellowship's status as a Welcoming Congregation. Members of the UUFJC Board also intend to sign onto the response as representatives of the Fellowship. Members and Friends' comments on this position are welcome; please direct them to our President, Katherine Connor.
Our annual pledge drive has begun! You should have gotten the pledge form if you are on our Yahoo!Group or weekly e-mail list, or you can get one from our Treasurer, Bob Antweiler. Please return the forms to him and see him with any questions. Thank you to everyone who pledges; this is a big help to us as we plan for the year ahead.
We are working on updating our Members & Friends Directory; please let us know if you want your contact information updated, added, or removed. There is a paper copy of the Directory in the back where you can note changes, or contact Laura Gilkey.
We need Adult Forum leaders for April. Contact Laura Gilkey.
The Transgender Support Group meets this Thursday, March 24th at 7 pm. Contact Ari Morse.
This Friday, March 25th is our monthly Salvation Army work day. Contact Bob Antweiler if you can help bring and serve food for those in need. Serving begins at 5 pm, please arrive by 4:30 to help prepare.
Later Friday evening at 7 pm is the Last Friday Documentary film here at the Fellowship. This month's selection: "The Hunting Ground." Contact Carol Bontempo.
The Hola Amigos Spanish Speakers will NOT be meeting at the Fellowship this Saturday as was previously announced. See Patt Behler for updates on the group.
Community Events this week:
This Thursday, March 24th at 6:30 pm in their Art Gallery, Missouri River Regional Library presents “Dream On,” a special documentary film showing and discussion. Be the first to see this film in mid-Missouri before its showing on PBS later this year. Political comedian John Fugelsang retraces the journey of Alexis de Tocqueville, whose study of our young country in 1831 came to define America as a place where anyone could climb the ladder of economic opportunity. "Dream On" explores whether that dream is alive and well in the 21st century. Contact Madeline Matson.
The annual online class at Sapattu begins in April. The class is called "Elemental Living" and will use the book "Four Elements" by John O'Donohue. Nancy TannerThies will teach and will share additional materials from her writings and other sources. The class will explore the four elements as a model for a balanced spiritual life, a description of our responses to conflict, and a way to explore the unity of the universe. There will be weekly resources and a twice-monthly online video conversation. Flyers are available on our bulletin board, or contact Rev. Nancy for more information.
This week, Capitol City Cinema presents "Only Yesterday" (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). For showtimes and more information, visit capitolcitycinema.org.
