Alexis also pointed out that even as we gain outward freedom, we can still be imprisoned by subtler mental and spiritual limitations. These limitations, theological or secular, form "a bad religion" that "brings us to our knees," to paraphrase a Frank Ocean song. Instead, Alexis encouraged each of us to find our inner heart of strength and remember that "Unitarian Universalism is not a faith in which one kneels – it asks us to stand, and to walk – to live out our values and potential and to support others to do the same."

Community Events this week:
This Tuesday, March 15th at 7 pm in their Art Gallery, Missouri River Regional Library presents "Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body: Tips from the Latest Research." Allyson Campbell, representing the Greater Missouri Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, will offer a program for adults of all ages looking for information on ways to age as well as possible. She will provide information about current research (what we know) and practical strategies (what we can do) in the areas of cognitive activity, physical health and exercise, diet and nutrition, and social engagement. This program is part of a series co-sponsored by MRRL and the Greater Missouri Alzheimer’s Association. Contact Madeline Matson.
This Wednesday, March 16th, Citizens Climate Lobby presents two free screenings of the documentary film "Merchants of Doubt," 6 pm and 8 pm at Capitol City Cinema. Inspired by the acclaimed book by Naomi Oreskes and Erik Conway, MERCHANTS OF DOUBT takes audiences on a satirically comedic, yet illuminating ride into the heart of American spin. Filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the curtain on a secretive group of charismatic pundits-for-hire who present themselves in the media as scientific authorities – yet have the contrary aim of spreading confusion about well-studied public threats ranging from toxic chemicals to pharmaceuticals to climate change. This showing is hosted by Citizens’ Climate Lobby. Contact: [email protected]
This Thursday, March 17th at 7 pm, Columbia Area NOW meets at the Hy-Vee Restaurant at Broadway and Fairview in Columbia. Non-members and new members are welcome. Contact Sue Gibson.
This week, Capitol City Cinema presents "Only Yesterday" (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). This personal and reflective film is a long-neglected gem by the animation masters at Japan's Studio Ghibli. For showtimes and more information, visit capitolcitycinema.org.
